IntelliCAD Technology Consortium: Quality Assurance Manager Jan 2007 - Present
  • One of two senior managers on software development team of over twenty members (other Mgr. is Development Director.) Direct reports include Build Manager and two Software Tool Development Engineers.  IntelliCAD is a commercial grade CAD software system sold around the world through over fifty consortium members to over a million end users.

  • Architected and managed creation of high volume testing system with web reporting dashboard.  This LAMP-based system increased test volume from 50 tests per day to over two million tests per day within first three years, and is state-of-the-art.

  • Represented the consortium's QA Department via webinar presentations and at annual professional conferences

  • Share responsibility for all product releasability decisions with Development Director.
Abstract Engineering: Software Test Manager / Lead Engineer, April 2004 - present
  • Independent contract QA Lead for IntelliCAD Technology Consortium.  Established testing methodology for 40 member companies and small team of QA Engineers.
  • QA Engineer for Navitrak, moving map software provider for government and law enforcement markets.
Microsoft Corporation: Software Test Engineer, Jan 2000-April 2004:
  • Whitebox/unit-testing of brand new MS Office product (C++.)
  • Tested ShapeStudio, which is part of Visio SDK 3.0 toolset.
  • Created mid-scale model-based fileIO testing tool of new FileIO subsystem (Bridger) using C# and internal MS tool TMT.
  •  Led testing of Visio 11 CAD file IO features.
  • Led security and other testing areas for Visio Viewer 1.0/10.  Wrote API testing scripts for Visio Viewer 2.0/11.
  • Architected, Implemented and deployed Common Content Tester tool which performed over 10,000 test cases for all Visio shape content.
  • Joined Tools Initiative, leading effort to integrate various Microsoft Test automation tools/systems at Visio.
Visio: Senior QA Engineer, Jul 1997-Jan 2000:
  • Tested XML file format for Visio 2002, including automated file IO benchmarking & data stuffing tool.
  • Tested new Metafile graphical rendering feature for Visio 2000 SR1.
  • Owned Dimensioning & led small print/plot testing group.  Wrote and exercised 10,000+ cases w/ LISP-based automation.
  • Built QA Lab, coordinated moving it to downtown San Diego offices.
  • Partially supervised three IS staff, as related to QA Lab duties.
  • Owned process for and created all gold masters for every IntelliCAD release after 1.0. (1.0a-b-c-d-e.)
  • Wrote VisMark benchmark for IntelliCAD using Multidrive framework & ran for each release.
  • Represented QA consistently at every IntelliCAD Program Team meeting for ~2 years (sometimes w/ another representative.)
  • Automated IntelliCAD 2000/AutoCAD 2000 data comparison tool with VB6.
Autodesk: QA Analyst II, Jul 1995-Jul 1997
  • Joined Ports/Platforms team during R13c4 project.  Wrote test design for and tested Win95 long filename compatibility.
  • Represented Autodesk w/ a senior programmer/architect at a key customer account visit in Sydney, Australia.  This activity averted a likely lawsuit against Autodesk.
  • Led four month project testing next DEC Alpha/NT release (r13c4), using all outsourced/contract testers.  Hired and supervised nine contractors.  Three of those nine were later hired as full-time QA Analysts by Autodesk QA Managers.
  • Worked on R14 project writing entirely new test design documentation for PEDIT command (135 pages.)
  • Left AutoCAD division and joined MCAD division in 1996.  Became QA Lead of AutoCAD Mechanical 1.0 project for a year.  Designed features, wrote specs for welding symbols, and was involved in OOD architecture and drafting standards for product.
Digital Equipment Corporation: Software QA Contractor, Feb 1995-May 1995

Led test team of myself and four other testers testing first DEC Alpha/NT release of AutoCAD r13c2b at Autodesk headquarters in San Rafael, CA.  Executed tests based on 100+ pre-written test design documents, reported status to DEC management, and interacted with programmer doing port.  Led effort of performing printer/plotter/digitizer testing in lab.

Western Tech. Services, CAD Engineering Group: General Manager, Jun 1993-Jul 1995


Worked as General Manager of small (ten-fifteen employee) CAD service bureau operation in Walnut Creek, CA.  Supervised drafting contractors, created/administered NT network, established drafting standards, managed plotting, etc.  Also involved in business operations activities such as customer visits, writing contracts, hiring, firing, etc.
